I appreciate that Dave Donelson understands that Martin Luther King, Jr. Day and the ICE actions in Minnesota are not related in anyway. I don’t think that Martin Luther King, Jr. was thinking of immigrants in his “I Have a Dream” speech.  He was thinking of the legal citizens of this country and that all were treated the same, regardless of skin color.  A separate issue is the lawlessness that is happening in cities which makes it unsafe for the people who reside therein.

This lawlessness is driven by people who are pushing for a complete disregard of the laws of the United States and support misinterpretations and riots to further their goal; which is, a complete reversal of the values of this great country.  Talk to the rioters and ask them for what they are protesting.  You may find that many don’t know.  They are paid and told what to do.

Two important adjectives are missing from this narrative:  Legal and Illegal.  I support legal immigration. My father was a legal immigrant when he entered through Ellis Island.  These present day “immigrants” that are being apprehended have not entered the country legally, and should be apprehended and deported.  Some have even committed crimes against the legal citizens of the Untied States or in their home country.

Following the laws of the land is what makes a society safe and free.  When Good was asked to get out of her car by an officer, she had the choice to obey or not.  She chose not, but continued to drive toward the ICE agent, who had previously been dragged by a protester’s car, and sustained injuries.

Mr. Donelson said about the incident in Minneapolis,  and I quote from the Gazette.  “….ICE officers were enforcing immigration laws that were legally enacted and were largely popular with the public.”

After all is said and done, a law-abiding city is a safe and free city.
